Induction of New AAA Members 2013
High School and College Graduates 2013
by Ms. Mely Diaz, AAA President
I met some of you for the first time 6 years ago,
in 2007, the year of St. Marie Eugenie's Canonization. I saw your tremendous
dedication through the long hours of practice preparing for our moment on the
international stage. And I witnessed your awesome performance of
"Voice of Hope" in the Sala Nervi in the Vatican. You made us all so
proud! Some of you I have known from the time you were in your mothers'
wombs. I've shared your moms' heartaches as well as the many, many joys you
have brought to her! So I am a proud Tita standing here, representing the
Assumption Alumnae Association.
I graduated from High School in 1976, 37 years ago, double your lifetime! Much has changed in Assumption, but a few things will always remain the same. In our time, Marie Eugenie was a distant figure, we knew her as Mother Foundress, a brave vibrant woman living in Paris in a time of great social unrest. We knew her life story, but the depth of her wisdom and holiness we only knew superficially. You are the younger daughters of Marie Eugenie but you know her more intimately, you know her thoughts, you sing her Credo. You are blessed!
In our time we had no Legacy Mass. Transformative education was not a phrase used then, but it certainly was the goal. Assumption has always been more than just about academic excellence; in this campus, under the guidance of our beloved RAs, our hearts and souls have also been nourished, nurtured and sensitized to the realities of the world we live in. The challenge is not only to be the best we can be, the challenge is also to discern God's will and the best way to use the gifts and the trials he sends our way. In the words of Marie Eugenie: "In the Assumption, All is from Jesus Christ, All belongs to Jesus Christ, All must be for Jesus Christ."
As you leave this campus, I hope you recognize the value of the education and the training you received here, but if not, in time I know this appreciation will come. One beautiful thing will remain the same - our Assumption School Song! It is so hard to sing and yet it is part of the fiber of our beings. We may be disintonado when we sing it, yet the words become the words we live by: fidelity to duty, love of simplicity, love of God, love of country. That is the Assumption way, the Assumption legacy, and it will stand you in good stead in your life's journey.
On behalf of the AAA, the Board of Trustees extends to all of you our warmest congratulations and prayerful best wishes. And this comes with an invitation to come home often, come home to share your life stories, come home to share your blessings, in your moments of loneliness – come home! Come home to enrich the lives of future generations of Assumption girls. This is the Assumption way too. This is the AAA way!
God bless you all! May you live fruitful, productive and faithful lives.
Thank you!
