President's Report
_"Come Home and Give Back"
In Advent 1882, St. Marie Eugenie wrote an extremely beautiful reflection, encouraging her sisters to work and pray for the coming of Christ's reign. She notes two main aspects of his reign; firstly, what she calls his 'social reign', where the values of Christ's kingdom would be found in society, and secondly, his reign in us, in our hearts and in our lives. As well as praying for a truly Christian society, Marie Eugenie was determined to work for the coming of Christ into people's lives and for the transformation of society.
All the start of 2011 this year, we revisited our vision and mission and aligned them with the new directions of the General Chapter of the Religious of the Assumption. The convergence comes to the same conclusion: TO LIVE ASSUMPTION today.
For Assumpta Magazine, we chose the theme: "The Power of Transformation" to highlight the successes of Assumption Missions. Through the past 43 years, Assumption Alumnae Association Inc. or more fondly called AAA, contributed to the development of Assumption Mission Schools. The generosity of alumnae in giving time, talent and treasures, is never wanting. Alumnae abroad (AAAA) and local chapters all over the Philippines continue to expand the Assumption spirituality of prayer and action. The cover of the magazine depicts the words of Sr. Diane Wauters on her August 15, 2011 message to all chapters:"....perhaps our communities, religious and lay, can also serve our contemporaries as 'Gospel scenes' not carved in stone but incarnated in our daily ordinary lives. Or perhaps we can imagine our communities as transparent stained glass windows through which as Marie Eugunie writes: the sun of truth and of justice that you have received in your hearts can enter. May it penetrate everywhere; try to have Him reign everywhere. May He enlighten and transform everything and lead us on the pathways of eternity."
As alumnae of Assumption, we carry in our hearts the teaching of St. Marie Eugenie and living Assumption Together is simply allowing ourselves to be transformed to the image and likeness of God. Let the sun shine through us as we go about our daily lives helping others in a small or in a communal way. "Come home and give back" is our clarion call for action.
All Hail to our beloved Assumption!
